Many homeowners assume higher quotes mean more expensive flooring, but the biggest cost difference is often the subfloor. The Australian Timber Flooring Association (ATFA) recommends that floating floors be installed within about 2 mm over a 3-metre span. If the floor exceeds this tolerance, extra preparation like grinding or levelling may be required.
