Dark brown laminate flooring ran through Emma’s family home in Calamvale.

The boards had a glossy finish, with strong variations in colour. But it wasn’t just the appearance that bothered her.

Emma thought the flooring looked cheap. She also disliked the hollow sound it made underfoot.

With three children growing older, her family needed more space. They were planning to sell their home and move somewhere bigger.

She could have left the laminate for the next owner.

Instead, she decided to replace the flooring throughout the house.

Why spend money renovating a home you’re about to leave?

Emma wanted the property to look more presentable to potential buyers. She also hoped the improvements would help her achieve a better selling price.

From Dark Laminate to White Oak Hybrid Flooring

Emma chose LUXO Floors’ 8H Hybrid in White Oak.

The original flooring was dark and glossy. The new White Oak boards had a much lighter timber appearance, with softer colour variations and visible grain.

The difference was particularly noticeable against the home’s white walls.

Replacing the Flooring Throughout the House

This wasn’t a renovation limited to the living room.

Emma replaced the flooring across the house, including the bedrooms, hallway, living areas and laundry.

Using the same White Oak colour throughout gave the spaces a consistent timber appearance.

The lighter timber-look flooring replaced the original dark laminate throughout the bedrooms, hallway, living areas and laundry. White Oak introduced softer colour variations and visible timber grain, creating a more consistent appearance alongside the home's white walls. The finished rooms also featured updated furniture and styling, so the flooring was not responsible for the entire visual transformation.

The Difference Wasn’t Just the Flooring Colour

Looking at the before-and-after photographs, the change is immediately noticeable.

The original dark laminate created a strong contrast with the white walls. Its glossy surface reflected light from the windows and ceiling fixtures.

After the renovation, the lighter White Oak flooring gave the rooms a softer, more understated appearance.

In the finished living area, the natural-looking timber grain sits alongside cream furniture, artwork and other lighter finishes.

The furniture and styling also changed, so the flooring wasn’t responsible for the entire transformation.

But replacing the dark laminate made a noticeable difference to the overall appearance of the home.

She Loved the Floors Enough to Want Them in Her Next Home

After seeing the finished renovation, Emma told us she loved the transformation.

She was happy with the product and glad she’d chosen it.

But what stood out was what she said about her next home.

She wanted to choose the same flooring again.

Emma had originally replaced the laminate to improve the presentation of a house she was preparing to sell.

We don’t know whether the renovation ultimately increased its selling price.

But we do know that she was happy enough with the White Oak flooring to want it in the bigger home her family was moving into.

She originally chose White Oak to help prepare her house for sale. After seeing the result, she wanted it in her next home too.
