The family had found a house in Corinda they loved.
Upstairs, the bedrooms had high, cathedral-style ceilings and tall windows that followed the steep roofline. The architecture reminded them of a chapel.
But during their inspection, something happened.
The daughter started sneezing.
The longer she stayed upstairs, the redder their noses became.
Both experienced allergies, and the carpet in the upstairs bedrooms was becoming a concern.
The family still wanted the house. They loved its unusual architecture and were already planning to renovate.
They didn’t want to change everything about it. The high ceilings and tall windows were part of what made the home special.
But they did want a flooring surface that would be easier to clean.
So they decided to replace the upstairs carpet with hybrid flooring.
The house was staying. The carpet wasn’t.
What Happened When We Removed the Carpet
When our installers began pulling up the old carpet, dust visibly rose into the air.
It had been difficult to see while the carpet was still in place. But as the carpet was lifted, dust was disturbed and released into the room.
The family had already decided to replace the carpet because they wanted something easier to maintain.
The dust disturbed during removal illustrated one of the reasons they preferred a hard flooring surface.
It was a reminder that dust can accumulate in carpet and become airborne when disturbed.
With the carpet removed, our installers could begin preparing the upstairs rooms for their new flooring.

The renovation preserved the home's distinctive cathedral-style architecture while replacing the carpet with warm Oat hybrid flooring suited to the family's everyday needs.

Replacing the Carpet With 8H Hybrid in Oat
The family chose LUXO Floors’ 8H Hybrid in Oat.
Oat has a warm timber appearance, with visible grain and subtle variations in colour.
Against the home’s white walls and skirting boards, the natural timber tones add warmth without overpowering the architecture.
One Continuous Floor From the Hallway Into the Bedrooms
Our installers laid the flooring continuously throughout the upstairs hallway and bedrooms.
There were no transition trims separating the flooring at the bedroom doorways.
Instead, the same timber appearance carries from one room into the next.
Looking down the finished hallway, the Oat floorboards lead towards the tall windows at the far end.
The grain adds texture to the predominantly white interior, while the cathedral-style ceilings remain the home’s most distinctive feature.
Dust Still Settles. But Now They Can See It.
After installation, the family told us something interesting.
Dust still settled on their new floors.
But now, they could see it.
Instead of being hidden within carpet fibres, the dust was visible on the hard flooring surface.
And when it was time to clean, they could simply remove it.
Hybrid flooring doesn’t eliminate household dust or cure allergies. But its smooth surface makes settled dust easier to see and remove through regular cleaning.
For this family, that was one of the practical differences they appreciated.

Keeping What They Loved About the House
When the family first inspected the property, they were drawn to its unusual architecture.
The cathedral-style ceilings and tall windows were what made the upstairs bedrooms memorable.
Those features haven’t changed.
But the carpet that concerned them during their inspection is gone.
In its place, warm Oat hybrid flooring now runs continuously through the upstairs bedrooms and hallway.
The family kept the features they loved about the house while changing the flooring to better suit their needs.
